Alo for Lounge, Lululemon for the Gym: My Activewear Breakdown

Alo vs. Lululemon: My Honest Take on Activewear Favorites

When it comes to activewear, Alo and Lululemon are two of the most talked-about brands on the market. Both have built cult followings for their styles, fits, and quality—but after years of shopping at both, I’ve come to realize that I actually prefer each brand for different things.

Alo: My Go-To for Sweatshirts & Sweatpants

Alo truly shines when it comes to loungewear. Their sweatshirts and sweatpants are the perfect mix of cozy and stylish, making them easy to wear at home, to run errands, or even out for a casual coffee date.

What really keeps me coming back are the color drops. Alo is constantly releasing new shades that make their sets feel fresh and collectible. Building a little collection of their sweats in different colors makes it fun to mix, match, and rotate depending on my mood.

The best part? I usually stock up during their Friends & Family Sale, which happens twice a year and offers 30% off sitewide. It’s the perfect time to grab those dreamy colorways before they sell out.

Lululemon: Best for Leggings & Sports Bras

When it comes to performance wear, though, Lululemon takes the crown. I’ve tried leggings from both brands, and I consistently reach for my Lululemon pairs.

Here’s why:

Breathability: Alo leggings just don’t feel breathable, especially in the summer. Walking to the gym in them was downright brutal. Lululemon, on the other hand, makes leggings that feel light and breathable—even during tough workouts.

Fit: Lululemon leggings stay put. I don’t find myself pulling them up or adjusting as much as I do with Alo leggings, which can slip down.

Fabric Feel: There’s something about the buttery softness of Lululemon’s fabrics that makes them so comfortable. They hug in all the right places without feeling restrictive.

I also prefer Lululemon sports bras over Alo’s. The support, fit, and fabric just feel more performance-driven and reliable for workouts.

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, I don’t think one brand is strictly better than the other—it’s all about what you’re shopping for. If I want cozy sweats in fun new colors, I head to Alo. If I’m investing in leggings or sports bras that will hold up during workouts, I go straight to Lululemon. For me, if I’m running around doing errands our just lounging around, I’ll wear Alo. If I’m at the gym or working out, you’ll see me in Lululemon. Both brands serve a purpose in my activewear wardrobe, and honestly, I love that I get the best of both worlds.
